Hon. Kapelieli Lanumata, Minister for Trade and Economic Development (MTED), successfully led a two-day official visit to Vavaʻu, reinforcing MTED efforts to support economic growth, digital transformation for businesses and consumer protection across Vavaʻu.

• Courtesy Visit to Lord Fakatulolo, Governor of Vavaʻu: Strengthening collaboration and shared priorities for Vavaʻu’s development.

• Business Registry Stakeholder Consultation: Engaging local businesses on the new online Business Registry system to improve service access.

• Vavaʻu Taskforce Inspections at Retail Stores: Led by the Hon. Kapelieli Lanumata and MTED Task Force inspection team, staff from the Ministry of Revenue & Customs, Tonga Police and Fire Services. Expired goods were seized and notices were issued.

• Pacific Energy Storage Terminal Site Visit (Toula): Assessing the facility’s operations and safety.

• Gas Station Owner Meeting: A Certificate of Recognition was awarded to Mrs Pauline Siale of ʻUtulangivaka Gas Station for the most compliant gas station in the October 2024 inspection round.

• Continued Public Consultations: The Business Registry and IP Team continued their outreach to ensure Vavaʻu businesses are equipped for the new online registry platform.
