Tonga for the first time participated at the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) General Meeting in New Delhi, India from the 15-19 September 2025, advancing the Tonga National Standards and Conformity Committee (TSCC) work on the Tonga Standardisation Roadmap.
“This milestone strengthens the TNCC quest for engagement with regional and international standards committees/bodies to support safer, more competitive products and services for Tonga”,according to Sandradee Fifita, Secretary to the TNCC.
Tonga joined Fiji and Papua New Guinea who are already IEC affiliate members in representing the South Pacific. Participation from the TNCC was funded by Standards Australia, who continue to support Tonga’s implementation of its Standardisation Roadmap.
Although Tonga’s standards development is still in its early stages, greater public awareness among communities, consumers, businesses and relevant Government Departments is key to unlocking the benefits of standards. Tonga’s participation not only build capacity, establish networks and exposure to IEC work programs and activities. As a result of Tonga’s participation, we hope to become affiliate member of IEC and improve work program and activities for the TSCC.
