On the sidelines of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting, Tonga’s Minister of Trade, Economic Development, and Tourism, Dr. Viliami Uasike Latu, met with Uganda’s Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Dorothy Samali Hyuha, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy, and tourism.

Key discussions focused on enhancing agricultural production, particularly in climate-resilient crops, and exploring renewable energy projects to reduce fossil fuel dependence. Uganda also offered support in vocational training for ICT and renewable energy, aiming to close skills gaps in Tonga.

The meeting highlighted potential investment opportunities in Uganda’s large East African market and the development of eco-tourism practices in Tonga. Both nations committed to building on these initiatives, signaling a strong partnership moving forward.
