Participants include growers, importers, exporters, government agencies, and development programmes, working together to build a pathway for fresh produce exports from Tonga to New Zealand. The forum features panel discussions, quickfire introductions, and one-on-one networking sessions to facilitate open dialogue and stronger connections among participants.

The forum aims to:

  1. Identify opportunities to enhance fresh produce exports from Tonga to New Zealand.
  2. Strengthen collaboration and coordination among key stakeholders.
  3. Create heightened awareness of biosecurity and market access challenges and opportunities.
  4. Provide insights into compliance requirements and trade facilitation processes.
  5. Share market insights on fresh produce in the New Zealand supermarket trade.

Hon. Kapelieli Lanumata acknowledged the valuable role of growers, exporters, and development partners in strengthening Tonga’s position in regional and global trade.

The forum highlights the need for stronger partnerships and improved understanding of market and regulatory requirements to move from potential to performance. The Government of Tonga remains committed to supporting these efforts to ensure that fresh produce exports meet international standards and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The forum continues over the next two days, providing a platform to explore new opportunities and advance Tonga’s fresh produce export potential.
