January 20โ24, 2025: The Women in Business Entrepreneurship Training program was successfully completed, equipping 11 women with skills in Business Leadership and Finance to enhance the management of their small businesses. These 11 participants were selected from various sectors, including bakery businesses, catering, handicrafts, beauty services, and other service industries.
This is one of the Ministry`s new initiative approved to be implemented in the FY2024/25 aimed at empowering women entreprenuers by providing with necessary training and financial support. This program includes mentorship networks connecting aspiring businesswomen to develop skills in leadership, marketing and most importantly an effective and efficient way to manage finances.
It is evident that while technical skills or talent form the backbone of a business, there is often a weakness in managing and making the most of the income earned. This, however, becomes a learning opportunity, providing insights that contribute to the growth and development of individual businesses.
The training program was facilitated by the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development (MTED) with the support of two individual consultants, Katrina Fatiaki and Tevita Vahaสปi. The first session, which included 10 participants, was conducted from December 3โ16, 2024. This was the second phase of the program. A total of 21 women in business were awarded with certificate of completion of the training program for cohort 1 and cohort 2.
This initiative is part of MTEDโs ongoing efforts to support Tongan businesses, especially following the impact of COVID-19, and similar programs will continue in the future
