Promoting Fair Trade and Healthy Living through Affordable Fruits and Vegetables

The Division of Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, in collaboration with Tonga Health, successfully carried out an initiative to promote healthy food consumption by encouraging the purchase of fruits and vegetables imported into the country at more affordable prices for the public.

As part of this effort, 25 electronic weighing scales were distributed today to small businesses and roadside vendors along the main roads to ensure that consumers receive fair and accurate prices approved by the Tonga Competent Authority.

During the event, the Director of the Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Division, Sandradee Fifita, explained that all imported fruits and vegetables must now be sold using standard kilogram measurements. This initiative currently operates in Tongatapu and will later extend to the outer islands.
